Showers of Blessings

God rains down showers of blessings every day, but we often miss them because our focus is on earthly things. Moreover, the world bombards us with all the ways to be blessed or happy, so it is challenging to keep our eyes on Jesus. However, we must not trust what the world thinks because its views on happiness constantly change.

In contrast to the world, the Bible says that God never changes. And He tells us in His Word that we can be happy, even when everything goes wrong. Because to be blessed is to experience the full impact of God’s presence in our lives. As a result, we can feel His peace and well-being despite our circumstances. So, how can you and I praise God and be grateful despite our circumstances?  When we realize that when we have Jesus, we have everything we need.

133 years ago, Daniel W. Whittle wrote the following hymn of praise to God.

There shall be showers of blessing:

Oh, that today they might fall,

Now, as to God, we’re confessing,

Now, as on Jesus, we call!

People continue to search for happiness in every generation until they find their rest in God alone.

Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord. Psalm 144:15

The Holy Spirit Showers Us with Blessings

Because the believer has the Holy Spirit to depend on, you and I can have joy and even sing during difficult circumstances.  For example, the Bible tells us that magistrates ordered Paul and Silas to be stripped and beaten. They were severely flogged and thrown into prison, yet this was their response:

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Acts 16:25

Love, peace, and joy are blessings that come from the Spirit of God and do not depend on your circumstances. Because God’s spiritual blessings are the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit, they come when you trust in the Lord.  Will you surrender yourself to His sovereign will?  You will be blessed when you cooperate with God by faith rather than being consumed by events beyond your control.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8

Hymns from People of Faith Shower us with Blessings

Over the centuries, God has inspired and used Christian hymns to encourage His people to focus on Him. As we sing a hymn, we enter into the songwriter’s story of faith in God despite their circumstances. As a result, our faith is encouraged to trust God in times of trouble.  Thus, old hymns testify to the rich heritage of people of faith who trusted God and experienced His Presence.

Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. Psalm 95:2

There are showers of blessings waiting for you in Christ Jesus, and they begin by believing the Word of God as the hymn writers did. Anglican Bishop Thomas Ken wrote the following hymn and published it in 1709.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

When you are stressed, you are not blessed. Instead, trust that God is in control and that His plans for you are perfect.

Obedience to God Brings Showers of Blessing

Obedience to God comes through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, first we believe God’s Word, and then we obey.

Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to Him.  You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128:1-2

Trials are opportunities to ask God to strengthen your faith when it is weak. You will obey when you believe God is good and trust His ways are best.

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

There shall be showers of blessing,

if we but trust and obey;

there shall be season’s refreshing,

if we let God have His way.

“Now then, my sons. Listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.  Listen to my instruction and be wise, do not ignore it.  Proverbs 8:32-33

Showers of blessing,

Showers of blessing we need:

Mercy drops round us are falling,

But for the showers, we plead.

Delight in God’s Commands, and Receive Showers of Blessings

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28

There shall be showers of blessing:

Send them upon us, O Lord:

Grant to us now a refreshing,

Come, and now honor Thy Word.

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in His commands. Psalm 112:1

Praise the Lord for His Showers of Blessing

When life squeezes you like a vise, remembering all the riches you have in Christ Jesus will be a blessing to you. There will be too many blessings to count.

Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.  Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits. Psalm 103:1-2

The truth of this verse is that we do forget our blessings in Christ because we are so focused on our “to-do list” or our problems. When we spend day after day focused on our earthly concerns, we diminish Christ, and our problems magnify. Instead, focus on Jesus and don’t allow your troubles to cloud your vision of Him. Praise the Lord for all He has done for you, and watch the enemy flee.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,

Count your blessings, see what God has done!

The Lord redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:4-5

Trust in the Lord, and Count Showers of Blessings

Johnson Oatman, Jr. wrote this hymn in 1897, and it is a reminder of all the blessings and comforts we enjoy because all good gifts come from God.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings, name them one by one

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done

May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,

And you will keep singing as the days go by.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged; God is over all;

Count your many blessings; angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Faith in Jesus Christ Releases Showers of Spiritual Blessings

“I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture. You are My people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.” Ezekiel 34:26, 31

Showers of spiritual blessings await those who put their faith in Jesus Christ and trust Him even in difficulties. True happiness comes from God!  We are blessed when we keep in step with God and do not neglect the things of the Spirit.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realm with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Ephesians 1:3

Prayer is a blessing.

Begin to bring order out of the chaos in your life by first believing that God hears you when you call on Him. How different would your everyday life be if you called on God for help at the first sign of frustration?

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. Psalm 107:19

The blessing of answered prayer.

I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4

God’s help is a blessing indeed.

For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you.  Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13

Because Jesus himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18

The blessing of God’s comfort.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

God’s strength and peace are blessings.

The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace. Psalm 29:11

More Showers of Blessings

The blessing of God’s supernatural power.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

Our salvation in Christ Jesus is our most precious blessing.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.  Our God is a God who saves. Psalm 68:19-20

The blessing of God’s deliverance

From the Lord comes deliverance.  May your blessing be on your people. Psalm 3:8

God’s faithfulness and compassion are blessings.

The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.  The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. Psalm 145:13-14

The blessing of God’s provision.

And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Joy is another blessing from God.

You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11

God’s complete forgiveness in Christ is a beautiful blessing.

In Christ, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us. Ephesians 1:7-8

Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.  Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.” Romans 4:7-8

God’s blessing of the Holy Spirit to counsel and guide us.

The Spirit helps us in our weakness.  The Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. Romans 8:26-27

Count Your Showers of Blessings

Encouragement and hope from God’s Word are more blessings.

Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. God gives endurance and encouragement. Romans 15:4-5

The miraculous blessing of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

The blessing of being a beloved child of God.

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1

There shall be showers of blessing:

This is the promise of love;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

Sent from the Savior above.

The Blessing of God’s Assurance in Christ Jesus

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

“Blessed Assurance” was written by Fanny Crosby in 1873. What a blessing it is to have our Lord quiet our hearts because we belong to Him and His kingdom. Pray that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Blessed Assurance Jesus is mine

O what a foretaste of glory divine

Heir of salvation, purchased of God

Born of His Spirit, washed in His Blood

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long

This is my story, this is my song

Praising my Savior all the day long

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
