Satan points the accusatory finger.

Satan is The Accuser

Satan is the Accuser, and he is the reason you live with guilt and shame even though you believe in Jesus. He is the one who torments you with the sins of the past and beats you up with present sins. He then tells you that you are an imposter, a failure, who can never measure up, leaving you feeling hopeless and defeated.

The good news is that Jesus conquered Satan when He died on the cross for your sins and rose again! His victory is your victory. So, please keep reading to understand who your enemy is and how he operates, so you, too, can defeat his lies.

The great dragon was hurled down, that ancient serpent called the devil or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth and his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.” Revelation 12:9-10

In the Bible, Satan is called the “Accuser,” and he is also called the “father of lies,” who takes great delight in afflicting the conscience of the believer. Your sins provide Satan with the grounds to charge you before God, while your sense of guilt gives him the reason to accuse your heart and mind.

Indeed, Satan condemns you for your sins, but Jesus wants to replace the spirit of despair with the oil of gladness and a garment of praise. This will happen when you understand your salvation and believe in the power of God’s Word.

Satan is a Liar

Satan’s accusations often center on your “spiritual performance,” because it causes you to focus even more on yourself instead of God! You are then vulnerable to his accusatory thoughts, or even the words of people whom Satan uses to make you feel that you can never measure up, and the downward spiral begins. Hence, you must learn to discern God’s voice because Satan is a liar.

Jesus said to them, You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

The Bible tells us that even Jesus, who lived a sinless life, was accused by others. Hence many believed the lies that Satan told, and Jesus was crucified, even though He died willingly. People continue to accuse and blame God today!

Meanwhile, Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked Him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. When He was accused by the chief priests and the elders, He gave no answer. Then Pilate asked Him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge, to the great amazement of the governor. Matthew 27:11-14

The accuser uses people to tear others down, using the tongue to hurt, slander, falsely accuse, lie, and ruin reputations. Hence, we must confess that we, too, are capable of being used this way, so be alert to the devil’s schemes.

One of the Ten Commandments: “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” Exodus 20:16

The Accuser Loves a Guilty Conscience

You will remain defeated if your focus continues to be on yourself and how you can improve, always trying to do better, but never feeling quite good enough. But praise the Lord! Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.

Therefore, you don’t have to live your life any longer believing Satan’s lies, and living with guilt and shame. Because when you rely on the Holy Spirit and believe the truth of God’s Word, you will destroy the lies of the accuser.

Indeed, your conscience needs peace, and no amount of self-help or willpower will work because only Jesus Christ can deliver you from the spiritual forces of evil. Jesus defeated Satan by using the Word of God, and so can you. When you begin to believe what God says, you won’t believe the lying accusations of the evil one any longer.

For this reason, it is paramount that you be intentional about studying and applying the Bible to your life, because God’s Word is powerful. Satan’s temptations and assertions will no longer work when you use the truth of God’s Word, the Bible, to defeat him.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting 40 days and 40 nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:3-4

Stop Believing Satan’s Accusations

Satan wants you to forget that Jesus paid your debt of sin in full forever, so you will continue believing his claims against you! Hear this again, beloved of God: Your past sins, your present sins, and your future sins have all been paid for! So then, stop allowing Satan to continue accusing you with his lies.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5 8

You have been set free forever through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross for your sins! You have peace with God, who no longer counts your sins against you.

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12

The moment you believed in Jesus’ death on the cross for your sins and in His resurrection from the dead, God saved you. You are forgiven, and all your sins have been paid for. Thus, when you continue to believe this gospel truth and apply it to Satan’s accusations against you, his power is removed, and he will retreat.

Hence, with God’s help, begin to walk and live in His truth every day because Satan is a defeated foe!

Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:22-23

The Accuser Uses the Law Against You

Always remember that the Christian life is never about what you do or don’t do because that is to exchange the grace of God to follow the law. Instead, live by faith in Christ, who fulfilled the law and justifies the ungodly.

Therefore, rely on Jesus, and put no confidence in yourself. Walk by faith, and God will empower you to do His will. But when you do mess up, and you surely will, there is always forgiveness from God. Consequently, your confidence in Christ’s finished work will always empty the ammo from Satan’s arsenal.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Whenever you feel hopeless and defeated, remember that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. So, to change your focus, pick up the Bible and let God remind you of what Jesus has done for you and who you are in Christ: Loved, forgiven, and redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.

Satan is No Match for Jesus Christ

Be discerning about who you listen to because there are only two choices: God, who always loves you and has your best interests at heart, or Satan, the accuser and father of lies, who is God’s enemy and yours. One voice will build you up, while the other will accuse you and tear you down.

Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. If God is for us, who can be against us? In all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:33, 37

Indeed, Satan was defeated when Jesus died for your sins and rose again, so stop giving Satan power by believing his lies. As you rely on the Holy Spirit of God, He will defeat the accuser and bring peace to your conscience. I pray that God’s truth continues to set you free, beloved of God!

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

satan is the accuser and he blinds the minds and hearts of believers and unbelievers alike. Thank you for writing about God’s power through the perfect sacrifice of his son, who defeated the Accuser and tripped over every thought and action and sin Satan uses to shame us. Victory in Jesus our Savior forever!

This reminder of the strategy and work of Satan was so important for me today, as I have struggled with several issues in my life. I am facing major life changes and feel overwhelmed. I also have had a more intense ministry in the past and have felt like I was currently worthless to God and His kingdom work. I was SO blessed and encouraged to again be reminded of what the enemy wants to do in my life. This just shows me, as I have learned and yet forget over and over, that I need God’s Word every day and His promises. He is so worthy of my praise and so powerful over the enemy of my soul Praise God for a fresh word about the truth of the battle I am in. I choose to believe what GOD says about me and refuse to let the enemy keep me defeated. HE IS A LIAR AND GOD’S WORD IS MY TRUTH!!! Praise His glorious name!!
