A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Ephesians 3:14-21

A Prayer of Thanksgiving will help you worship God.  And when you do, your heart will then want to thank Him for His love and His goodness.  Because God’s love for you is constant and never changes, there is always a reason to thank God.  Indeed, this Prayer of Thanksgiving will encourage you to come to Him with a grateful heart for His faithfulness and all that He does for you.

So, keep this in mind when we look at Ephesians 3:14-21.  But first, the Psalms are also full of heartfelt prayers of worship and thanksgiving to help you thank God even in difficult circumstances.  For example, read the following verses of Psalm 100 and look for reasons to thank God.

Know that the Lord is God.  It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Enter His gates with Thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.  For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.  Psalm 100:3-5

Ephesians 3:14-21 is a Prayer of Thanksgiving

Christians often struggle to thank God regularly.  So, they would be the first to say that the Bible is the best place to turn for examples of gratitude and thanksgiving to God.  So, as our example of a Prayer of Thanksgiving, get your Bible and turn to Ephesians 3:14-21.

Before we continue, you will see my responses under each verse in Ephesians 3:14-21.  And hopefully, these examples will help you see how to use the Bible to worship and thank God for yourself.  So, before we begin, ask God to open your spiritual eyes to see all that He has for you.

I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  Ephesians 3:14-15

As an act of worship, I kneel in your Presence, Father God, and praise you that the idea of the family came from you.  Therefore, I can know that my family is also an essential part of your plan.

And thank you, Father God, that you are not only my Creator, but you also created each person in my family.  And, because you know them by name, I entrust them to you.  So, I worship you, my God, the source of all life.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for My Family

God designed the family in His infinite wisdom to reflect His character.  So, you glorify Him when you live out your faith in Jesus Christ in your family and make them a priority.  Because if you cannot learn to love those in your family, you cannot hope to love others.  And this includes loving your enemies, as Jesus has called believers to do.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the family you have given me, and I pray for each member’s spiritual growth and protection.  So, please help me reflect the Lord Jesus Christ in my words and in all that I do.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Holy Spirit

And I pray that out of His glorious riches, He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, …Ephesians 3:16-17

I praise you, Father God, that you give to me out of the full majesty of who you are.  So, thank you for the Holy Spirit, whose mighty power strengthens me to do your will by faith.  And when I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, there is nothing He cannot do through me as I trust in His love. 

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you live in my heart by faith.  And, as I continue by faith, I am anchored in your love and therefore secure.  So, I am immovable and able to weather any storm.

The power of the Holy Spirit is the power of God who lives in you.  And where God’s Spirit dwells, Christ is present.  And so, through God’s divine power, you have everything you need.  However, without faith, it is impossible to please God.  Therefore, confess your unbelief and ask Him to strengthen your faith to rely on the Holy Spirit instead of yourself.  And then, you will walk by faith and not by sight.

Father God, thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit who strengthens me to live for Christ by faith.  And as I rely on you, I pray that others will see Jesus’ love in me and praise your holy name.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for Christ’s Love

And may you have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.   Ephesians 3:18-19

To live the Christian life is to live by faith in the power of God and not yourself.  So now, look at the verse above and ponder how important it is to God that you grasp and experience His deep love for you.  Because when you walk by faith in Jesus, the fullness of God fills you, and then, through you, His amazing love spills out to others.

You first experienced God’s love when you believed that Jesus, who had no sin, willingly died on the cross to take the punishment that you deserved for your sin.  And, when you believed in Jesus, you were born again by the Spirit of God. The power of God’s love changed your life, so continue to believe in Jesus and remain in His love.

Then, as you continue to grow in the knowledge of God through His Word, you become rooted and grounded in the love of Christ.  Therefore, do not doubt God’s love for you, no matter how deep the waters are that He takes you through.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving me so much that you were willing to sacrifice your life to pay the penalty for my sin.  So, help me continue to believe the unchanging love you have for me.  And then, I will bloom wherever you plant me because I trust in you.

A Thanksgiving Prayer to Live Out Christ’s Love by Faith

The powerful love of God in Christ continues to transform your life as you stay connected to the Lord through His Word and prayer.  And then you live out Christ’s love by faith in His finished work alone.

No one has ever seen God; But if we love one another, God lives in us, and His love is made complete in us.  We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.  And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world. 

God is love and whoever lives in love lives in God and God in them.  So then, you can know that God lives in you if you love one another.  Thus, may God perfect you in His love until you see Jesus face to face.

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.  And so, we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love.  Whoever love lives in love lives in God, and God in him1 John 4:12-16

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, and He is God.  So, thank you that you will never leave me or forsake me because your Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, lives in me by faith.  And thank you that when I love others as you have commanded, the love of Christ is made visible to them, and faith is then complete.   

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for God’s Marvelous Work in You

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever!  Amen.  Ephesians 3:20-21

In the end, God receives glory when you believe in Him, and when you do, He does the impossible in and through you.  But you will never know what God can do until you trust in Him. 

So, thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are the author and perfecter of my faith.  And I am more than grateful, Father God, for your incredible love that Christ reveals.  And because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, I have the power of the Holy Spirit living in me.

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.  Psalm 9:1

Thank you, Father God, for loving me and for saving me.  So, by the power of your Holy Spirit who lives in me, help me love you back with all my heart, soul, and mind.  And then, by faith in you, I will love others as you have loved me. 

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you can do so much more in my life than I can ask or imagine according to your power that is at work within me.  Therefore, to you alone belongs the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  2 Corinthians 13:14
