Seek God’s Presence

Posted on January 21, 2016 · Posted in Encouragement, Faith

A new year gives you a chance to pause and reflect and resolve to pursue what is most important to you.  Do you want to experience God more this year?  Would you like to be more aware of His Presence in your life?   It is hard to perceive God if you are not seeking Him daily.  With God’s help, resolve to seek Him!

Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face alwaysPsalm 105:4

Seeking God is no trivial pursuit.  This is a promise from God to believe:

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.  Proverbs 8:17

When we do not actively seek God, worry and the affairs of this life quickly cloud our vision of His Presence.  We disconnect from Him when we are too busy to pray and too busy to read and study His Word.  Our everyday actions declare the truth:  God can wait!  We will not perceive God’s Presence when our earthly life is more important than our spiritual life.

The following verse provides a remedy to those who act on it with God’s help:

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  Colossians 3:1-2

Seek God by Faith

Ask for His Help

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  Hebrews 11:1

Faith is placing your confidence in God and not in yourself.  Call on God in prayer with a sincere heart and you will connect to His Presence.  In every circumstance you face, God is there but you won’t perceive His Presence until you ask for His help and then depend on Him.

The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.  He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.  Psalm 145:18-19

When you are conscious of His Presence, you will remember that you are not alone.  Instead of calling on Him occasionally, you will begin to run to Him first because you will have seen His faithfulness in answered prayer.

Jesus taught: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.  Matthew 7:7-8

Jesus tells you to persist in pursuing God and you will be rewarded.  Seek God daily in prayer and in His Word and you will become more and more aware of His Presence as you see Him working in your life.

God speaks to us from His Word.  Do you believe the following verse?

And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

When you believe God’s Word, you believe God!  The burdens you carry will be lifted as you rely on Him and experience the peace of His Presence, even if your circumstances do not change.  Ask God to help you make His Word a priority and believe that he will help you.

Come near to God and He will come near to you.  James 4:8

God is Spirit

Worship Him in Spirit and in Truth

Ponder this about your Creator and seek Him:

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.  And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.  From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should liveGod did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.  For in Him we live and move and have our being.  Acts 17:24-28

God’s Word focuses our minds on the spiritual, the eternal.  The Biblical Story of Jacob in Genesis is a reminder to us of God’s unseen presence.

God revealed himself to Jacob after he ran away from his angry brother in a situation that he himself had caused.  Because of choices he had made, he was now estranged from his family and feeling all alone.  God gave Jacob a dream where he saw the Lord and heard him talking to him.  The Lord gave Jacob His promises and told him that He would not leave him.

When Jacob awoke he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place and I was not aware of it.”  Genesis 28:16

God was near to Jacob all along because God is spirit and He is everywhere, but Jacob did not perceive Him.  When you make it a priority to seek God and to do His will, you will be more aware of His Presence in your life.  You will see God’s handiwork in creation, you will hear His encouragement through others, you will hear Him speak to you from His Word and you will know that the Bible verse you read is just for you.  You will also be ready when God prompts you to say something to someone or to serve in His name.

God reveals other truths from this story that we can take with us into the new year.  Jacob had a sin nature like us, yet God revealed Himself to him.  Never think that you need to be “good enough” to hear from God or to be used by HimJacob did not deserve God’s favor and neither do we!  God is gracious, and He gives good gifts to His children, but it is never because we are “good enough” to earn His favor.  God tells us in Romans 3:10 that there is none righteous or worthy, not one!  God’s righteousness is available only through faith in Jesus ChristJesus is our righteousness as He alone is without sin.  Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.

Open My Eyes to Your Presence, Lord

Help me to Walk by Faith

Ask God to open your eyes to see spiritually.

Fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  2 Corinthians 4:18

The biblical story of Elisha in 2 Kings reveals God’s unseen Presence and strengthens our faith.

The King of Aram ordered that Elisha be captured.  Elisha’s servant went out early in the morning and saw that an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city; a king’s army sent against one man of God, Elisha!

The servant asked Elisha what they should do.

Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered.  “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”  And Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so that he may see.”  Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.  2 Kings 6:16-17

Elisha knew that God was with them, but His servant did not so the servant was fearful.  Elisha asked God to lift the earthly curtain so that his servant could see the mighty Presence of God’s spiritual army.  The eyes of faith reveal God to us.  When we are aware of God’s Presence there is no room for fear.

Ask God to strengthen your faith; to believe.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.  Hebrews 11:6

Faith reveals that God is doing more than we can ever realize through sight alone!  God has all the spiritual resources that you and I will ever need when we have eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to receive.  As Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world.”  The kingdom of our Lord is a spiritual kingdom, a supernatural kingdom.  God is Spirit and like the wind we can see His activity all around us when we have eyes to see and ears to hear!

We live by faith, not by sight.  We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.  So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.  2 Corinthians 5:7-10

Believing this verse gives us a godly perspective about why it is important to seek God daily and make pleasing Him our top priority.

Lord, open my eyes to Your Presence.  Help me to trust you when I cannot see; to walk by faith, not by sight.  Help me to put you first in my life.

The Lord Is Always with You!

Remember that God’s silence does not mean God’s absence!  Whenever you feel all alone and abandoned by God, remember that God is always with you wherever you are, and He is powerful to save.

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?”  Hebrews 13:5-6

God knows your fears and whispers to you from His Word:  Don’t be afraid.  Remember, my beloved child, My Holy Spirit lives in you so I am always with you.  Do you perceive My Presence?

Seek God in Prayer

Ask the Lord to live His life in you today.  Pray in faith and expect God to answer.

Father God, in your Presence I am aware of my need for your forgiveness of my sin.  Cleanse me in Jesus name and live your life in me today.  Strengthen my faith to seek you daily and help me to stay connected to you through prayer and Bible study.  Empower me to live what I know and walk by the Spirit, so my life is pleasing to you.

I want to know you, God, more and more so I ask that you reveal yourself to me as I follow Jesus.  I want to experience your power and see your mighty works in my own life.  Thank you for the joy of my salvation in Christ Jesus and for always working for my good and your glory.  Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Believe.  Ask God for what you need.  Trust Him.  Seek Him, live in His Presence and He will change your life!
