How To Be Born Again

Posted on August 17, 2014 · Posted in Gospel, Jesus Christ

Are you tired of living for yourself?  Are you perhaps feeling lost and empty and thinking that there surely must be more to life?  You are right!  God has designed you to live in relationship with Him and to live the abundant life that He has planned for you.  God desires that today be the day of your salvation!   I have prayed that God will open your eyes to see and your heart to understanding as you read.

The Bible Tells us the Story of a Man whose Name was Nicodemus Who Was Also Searching

John 3:1-8

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council.  He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God.  For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.

You may be asking the same question that Nicodemus asked, How can a man be born when he is old?”  Jesus answered,

I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.  ‘The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Jesus, God’s Son, Explains How to be Saved

For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”  John 3:16-18

There was a day in January 1975 that I confessed to God that I was a sinner.  I had lived my life ignoring God and going my own way apart from Him.  I believed that Jesus died on the cross for every sin I had ever committed and would commit in the future.  I asked Jesus Christ to enter my heart and be my Lord and Savior and I received God’s gift of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus heard my prayer.  My life began to change from following only myself and the world’s thinking to following Christ.  I became a new person in Christ through faith and by faith He will continue to change me for my good and His glory until I see Him face to face.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.” If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well.  From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”  John 14:6

“This is eternal life:  that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”  John 17:3

Only Jesus Saves

I have decided to follow Jesus.  What is your decision?

I believe and am convinced that Christ took the punishment that I deserved for my sins through His death on the cross.  Jesus is my Savior.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23

The Bible teaches that God was satisfied with His Son’s sacrifice and that He raised Jesus from the grave. Today, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and He promises to return. After I invited Jesus into my life, the Holy Spirit within me began to motivate and empower me to want to please God and to do His will where before salvation, I had ignored God and gone my own way apart from Him.  I am a new creation in Christ, born of the Holy Spirit, whom God continues to transform.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  2 Corinthians 5: 17

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.  And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.  2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Jesus Died For You and God Raised Him Up From the Grave

Will You Receive Him?

Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.  “The word is near you, it is in your mouth and in your heart.” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:  That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”  For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile, the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  Romans 10:4, 8-13

Someone I know expressed God’s mercy like this:  “I know now that Jesus hung on the cross and was shamed and beaten and broken in my place.  I am the sinner that deserved to die.  I am the one that deserved  to be punished.  Jesus was perfect and without sin and yet He traded places with me and took ALL of my punishment so that I did not have to pay the penalty for my sin.  With His help I now want to serve Him with my life.”

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.  But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 6-8

Does this Prayer Express Your Heart?

God Will Hear You

Help me, God my Savior for the glory of your name; deliver me and forgive my sins for your name’s sake.  Thank you that you are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.  In Jesus’ name I pray:  Save me!  Amen. (Adapted from Psalm 79:9; 86:5)
