God’s Word Speaks
God’s Word speaks to us through the Bible, the Word of God, so He can communicate with those He created. And because Jesus said He is the living Word, the bread of life, reading and studying His Word is essential. In summary, the Bible is God’s revelation, Christ is the message, and the Holy Spirit is the author.
Thus, whenever you pick up your Bible, expect God to speak to you through His Word. Because no matter what you are going through, God has something to say to you. And most importantly, when you believe God’s Word, He gives you the power to overcome the difficulties you face and do the things that please Him. Concurrently, God transforms you to look more like Jesus.
Indeed, the living God speaks to you and reveals Himself through His Word. Do you believe this? Then, why is the Bible still sitting on the shelf? Dust it off and ask God to help you make the study of His Word a priority because God wants to have a personal relationship with you.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last. John 15:15
God Speaks and Reveals Himself
It is impossible to know someone if you do not spend time with them. So, whenever you read the Bible, ask God to teach you and give you understanding because you want to know Him. Because only when you read the Bible will you understand who God is and what His will is for your life. Therefore, if you do not perceive God from what He has revealed about Himself in the Bible, you do not know Him. But, as you can see from the following verse, God does want you to have a personal relationship with Him.
This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength, or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:23-24
We all want our lives to matter, to be involved in something bigger than ourselves. So, stop here and reflect on what is most important to you each day. How much of what you do has eternal value? Did you discover that you always find time to do what is important to you?
God’s Word is Eternal
Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Psalm 119:89
Apart from Jesus, you can do nothing of eternal value, so your good intentions will never achieve spiritual goals. Therefore, it is essential to rely on God to help you make Bible study a priority. Because otherwise, you will allow the myriad of life’s interruptions to prevail instead of doing what is eternal.
God’s Word Provides Spiritual Nourishment
The Bible provides spiritual nourishment, so hearing daily from God is essential.
Jesus said: “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
The Bible tells us about Martha, who neglected Jesus one day. So, even though Jesus, God in the flesh, was sitting in her home talking to her sister, Martha was worried and distracted by other things. And because she prioritized her to-do list, Martha became bitter that Mary wasn’t helping. So, although Martha could also have listened to Jesus, she chose to focus on earthly things instead.
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2
Jesus said His Word is as necessary as eating because faith comes from believing the Word of God, and faith is what pleases God. So, the next time you find yourself consumed with your earthly life, stop, and reevaluate what is eternal.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6
Plan Time Daily to Hear God Speak
Jesus said: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Luke 21:33
Unquestionably, to prevent an earthly focus, it is imperative to dedicate time each day to spend with Him. But before you begin, ask God to help you choose a time and place to read and study the Bible, and then rely on Him to be consistent. Indeed, God’s involvement is crucial because you can expect a spiritual battle.
Sometimes, the battle can look like distractions that suddenly scream for your attention. Or the devil attempts to discourage you by telling you that the Bible is too hard to understand, so it is useless to try. But resist him and believe God, who says that the Holy Spirit will teach and give you understanding.
But Satan wins the struggle when you decide you are too busy to read the Bible. So, to prevent his victory, stand firm and believe God will redeem your time with Him. And I can say from personal experience that whenever I put God first, He recovers my time, and the important things get done.
Jesus said: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Trust and Obey God’s Word
Jesus said: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46
God prioritizes knowing Him personally from His Word and then living a life of faith that reflects Jesus in the world. However, the Bible also warns us about going through the motions. And this happens when you hear or read God’s Word and then forget what it said. For this reason, applying the Bible to your life by faith is essential because only those who believe and obey God’s Word can declare they are Christ’s followers.
Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own, they belong to the Father who sent me.” John 14:23-24
Because of this verse, be aware of reading the Bible for information alone because your faith is complete only when you obey what God says. So, believe God’s Word by faith and then rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to apply His Word to your life. And as a result, you will see God transform your life to look more like Jesus.
Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22
God Transforms the Human Heart
God’s Word is living, active, and able to transform the human heart. So, expect to hear God speak to you from His Word and transform your life.
Jesus is the Word
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
The Word of God is truth
For the Word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. By the Word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of His mouth. Psalm 33:4, 6
The Bible reveals God’s love
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
God’s Word transforms you
For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Bible study matures you in Christ
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2:2
Knowing God’s Word keeps you from sin
I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11
The Word of God comforts you
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Believe God When He Speaks to You
You must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20
The Word of God strengthens you
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
God’s Word guides you
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105
Father God, I want to know you from your Word, so empower me by your Holy Spirit to make Bible study a priority in my life. And then, teach me and give me understanding, so I will know you better and serve you with my life. It is in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Hi Suzanne, it is worth saying that I have been trying to seek God for sometime now but I have either failed by not being consistent, or not trying hard enough. I came across your message yesterday, and it was apparent that your message of digging deeper is what I have lucked all these years.
I am 64 years old and each single day I feel I need to know God more and also lead a spiritual life. I am a single mum with two daughters aged 37 & 29 years, and I need God now than ever before. I have been very lukewarm in my past, but now I feel the need to be closer to God, and I have been reading the biblend regularly, but not on a daily basis, and I always feel like someone is reminding me when I have not read it. I am praying for my daughters to know God more, asking God through his ways to allow them to know him better. I need your guidance in this now and not tomorrow.

There are many lies that we believe when we don’t know God’s Word that also keep us from knowing who He is and what His will is for us.
